We cannot be on the ground in Haiti to touch, comfort and soothe the frightened, grieving and orphaned. But from our distance, we can do something.
When I said I hoped my inbox would be full, you did not disappoint. Wow, so many of you willing to do your part to help. We can't wait to start listing the donated items in the etsy shop, so if you haven't already done so please start sending in those photos. Items should start to appear in the shop as early as tomorrow.
One of the first art donations came from Melody at The Willow Tree in the form of the most adorable bunny pattern. I emailed her this morning and asked if I could feature her Bella Bunny on today's post...
...for a very good reason!
When I was visiting the hospitals and orphanages in Port-au-Prince I ached to have something soft and sweet and cuddly to give the children and babies. Something just kept tapping at my heart that these little ones needed something to hug and love.
So I am putting a call out to all my fellow seamstresses. Let's start our machines humming and make some cuddly bunnies for the children of Haiti. The patterns will be available for purchase in the Haiti by Hand etsy shop by Friday, but if you want to get started right away drop by Melody's shop for the pattern. You'll want to go by there anyway for lots of adorable ideas for making bunnies. If you do make these bunnies please email us for our shipping address. I will personally make sure they are delivered directly into the hands of these precious children. (Please note that the bunnies are baby-safe, so no buttons or other items that could harm a little one. And the softer the fabrics the better. Oh! and make sure you make boy bunnies too.)
Boy this makes me want to crank up my sewing machine and stitch. But I'm going to let you do that while I begin to process the many donations that are coming in for the Haiti by Hand shop.
And speaking of that...
(1) we are still accepting donations so please email us at haitibyhand@att.net if you'd like the details
(2) be patient with us (because it's pretty much still just me at this point)
(3) thank you so much for trusting me with your art, your money, your time.
I am honored and humbled and consider myself very blessed for this trust. Again, I want to assure you that everything you are doing will empower and impact real people in a real crisis.
So please just get in touch if you have any questions or thoughts. We'd love to hear from you!
