...you were able to walk right up to a Haitian woman in need and tuck $50 into her weary hand. First of all, you would be giving her enough to feed her family for a long while, or maybe enough to buy fruits and vegetables to start her own business selling in the market, or enough to send her child to school.
This is the driving force behind why I began Haiti By Hand. To bring one American (or European or Australian or Canadian or Russian...) woman directly in touch with one real Haitian woman. To know her story and connect with her. When I was in Haiti just a few days before the quakes, I looked around and realized that I cannot help the nation of Haiti, but I can help one Haitian...and then maybe one more...then one more.
And you have been helping me do that by donating and purchasing items in the HBH etsy shop. We've raised almost $4,000 so far. But items are still coming in and the shop is still open. Think of it this way: when you spend $15 on this, or $50 on this, or $35 on this, it's the same as putting that exact amount into the hand of a woman in Haiti...and you get the beautiful item as well! Isn't it great how this works?!
We are still accepting items for the shop. Read the details here if you'd like to donate.
And we're super excited about the auctions coming up! And some other amazing ways to connect, support and love these lovely moms, wives, sisters and friends in Haiti.
Check back often!
grace & peace,
Rebecca

I have been checking in and I just wanted you to know that I'm still praying and I haven't moved on, nor forgot. I'm thinking here, and wondering what it is that I could make. I just need a bit of time, but wanted you to know that I am still here with you and those in Haiti. Much peace.

Hi Rebecca,
This is a wonderful idea, thank you so much for organising it. I actually created a necklace and my 6 year old son did some artwork, before I realised there was a way that I could donate items to sell. I've organised two auctions on my blog already, otherwise I would have done it this way with your etsy shop. You might like to come and take a look at my little guy's artwork, 2nd post down on my blog currently. Cheers, Natasha in Australia

Time to go shopping and I will work on creating something to donate.
Take care and God Bless.
